JLAB (Academic and Leadership)
The JROTC Leadership & Academic Bowl (JLAB) team consists of 8-11 cadets that compete in local and national events. There are two cadet teams that participate in the events. One team is the “Leadership” team that answers questions about leadership styles, JROTC knowledge, George C. Marshall, thinking maps, and more. This team helps cadets learn different leadership styles, thinking maps, and more things that they can apply in JROTC and other areas. The other team is the “Academic” team. The academic team answers math, science, language arts, and JROTC questions in the competitions. These competitions have timed questions for both teams. The teams also practice together at the beginning of the school year until they divide in October to prepare for each level of the national competition. These two teams practice SAT/ACT questions and JROTC knowledge. JROTC Academic Team helps cadets learn how to work as teams and prepare for the SAT/ACT.

One of the main goals of the JROTC Academic Bowl is to prepare students for state exit/graduation exams as well as college entrance exams, such as the SAT and ACT. However, many JROTC instructors are understandably interested in measuring how well their cadets are learning the JROTC curriculum. Therefore, we will have a mix of JROTC curriculum as well as English, Math and Science in each level of the competition. A few questions about current events are also included – focusing on national and international news, particularly international relations, politics, business and science. All of the current events questions will be taken from major media available on television, the internet and in daily newspapers(see suggested resources below). We encourage all cadets, whether they are on the academic team or not, to prepare for the ACT, SAT and ASVAB tests by reviewing English, Science and Math coursework.
There are several resources available, free-of-charge, to all students.
