There are only two middle schools in Lee County that currently offer Project Lead the Way, and FMMA is one of them! We are the proud recipient of a three-year, $15,000 Project Lead the Way Grant, sponsored by Verizon. We are currently in year two of the grant, which funds the implementation of two amazing courses: Computer Science for Innovators and Makers, and App Creators.
Computer Science for Innovators and Makers teaches students that programming goes beyond the virtual world into the physical world. Students are challenged to creatively use sensors and actuators to develop systems that interact with their environment. Designing algorithms and using computational thinking practices, they code and upload programs to micro-controllers that perform a variety of authentic tasks. Teams select and solve a personally relevant problem related to wearable technology, interactive art, or mechanical devices.
App Creators introduces students to computer science through the development of mobile apps. Students develop authentic solutions to problems and learn about the positive impact that the application of computer science has on other academic disciplines and society.
Our certified Project Lead the Way instructor is Mr. Max McElligott. If you have questions about the program, please reach out to him at MaxwellJM@leeschools.net.
