The IGCSE Drama syllabus invites you to consider the performance possibilities of various types and forms of drama. As an IGCSE Drama student, you will undertake various forms of actor training and put the skills you have gained through this experience in practice to create performances. You will be preparing performances from the perspectives of director, designer and actor. You will discover the rigorous and details of the process of creating original devised drama and preparing an extract from an existing play for both individual and group performances.
IGCSE Drama also provides you with the opportunity to reflect on the artistic choices and performances completed in class. You will write about this creative process and final outcome when responding to short-answer and extended-response questions.
The aims are to enable students to develop:
an interest in and enjoyment of drama and theatre
an understanding of the dramatic process of moving from script to performance
skills in devising original drama
practical performance skills as individuals and within a group
an understanding of, and engagement with, the role of actor, director and designer in creating a piece of drama
an understanding of how performers communicate with an audience.
