The mission of the Bowman Primary school counseling program is to provide students with an equitable, data-driven school counseling program that addresses the needs and interests of all students. The school counselor will provide students with a positive school climate that cultivates acceptance, empathy, and perseverance through school wide activities, classroom instruction, small group, and individual counseling. In partnership with other educators, parents and guardians, and the community, the school counselor will advocate for a school environment that will address the academic, social-emotional, and college and career development of all students in order to ensure lifelong empowerment.
The vision of the Bowman Primary school counseling program is that all students will reach academic success, social-emotional growth, and will become college and career ready. Students will be empowered to reach their maximum potential and will gain the necessary skills to become lifelong learners that sustain personal growth and contribute to society with compassion and pride in an ever-changing world.
All students have the ability to achieve and we will work with individual students to guide their strengths and help them create goals by meeting them where they are dependent upon their environments and support systems, while holding them to high expectations.
Each student is to be met with kindness and support for their individual developmental needs.
It is our responsibility to be an advocate for every student to help them grow academically, personally/socially, and emotionally. We develop relationships and use thoughtful consideration and input acting on what is in the best interest of a student while balancing confidentiality, developmentally appropriate expectations, and the student's goals.
Our program is guided by the input of stakeholders involving staff, students, parents and community members and implemented through the counseling department.
Our program uses data to direct the impact of each school counselors’ role in the school community.
Our program is grounded in ethical standards outlined by the American School Counselor Association to provide structure and guidelines for how we work with staff, students, families, and our community. It allows us to focus our work as school counselors in a moral and safe capacity.
