The Westside Family of Schools refers to those public schools within the Central Okanagan School District that are located on the west side of Okanagan Lake and service a population of approximately 50,616 within the City of West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation, District of Peachland and Regional District Central Okanagan, West Electoral Area.

The Westside is currently distributed into two middle school geographic areas which respects these barriers as best as possible and also reflects past understanding of community neighbourhoods. However as neighbourhoods mature and new subdivisions and roads are being developed, these historical school feeder groups and catchment areas may no longer be optimum to service the growing community.

Westside Family of Schools

Westside is divided into two areas; Constable Neil Bruce Middle Family and Glenrosa Middle Family. The family of schools include five elementary schools (Chief Tomat Elementary, Hudson Road Elementary, Rose Valley Elementary, Mar Jok Elementary and Shannon Lake Elementary) and one middle school (Constable Neil Middle). Constable Neil Bruce Middle School currently feeds Mount Boucherie Secondary that also receives students from the Glenrosa Middle school in the west area of West Kelowna.

Constable Neil Bruce Middle Family

This family consists of the following nieghbourhoods Shannon Lake; South Boucherie, Lakeview Hieghts, West Kelowna Estates/Rose Valley, Westside Road, Casa Loma and Westbank First Nation Lands IR10 and western area of IR 9.

Residential Development

The City of West Kelowna projects 3,245 new residential units will be constructed over 20 years from 2020 to 2040 within this family area. New residential developments underway, in the application stage or proposed indicate the anticipated 3,830 will be reached by 2040. 40% of the new housing units are single family units (appealing to families) and 60% are multi‐family units.

Westbank First Nation has significant residential development planned for the area. The projected new residential numbers are anticipating approximately 130 units annually.

CNB Births

Births in this family area have average 249 the last 3 years.

CNB Family Youth Population

The area has been the hub for a lot of new development over the past 10 years and continues to attract young families to the area. There has been a increase in the youth population since 2014.

Glenrosa Middle Family

This family consists of the following nieghbourhoods Glenrosa, Goat's Peak/Gellatly, Westbank, Westbank Centre, Smith Creek and eastern area of IR 9.

Residential Development

The City of West Kelowna projects 2,932 new residential units will be constructed over 20 years from 2020 to 2040 within this family area. New residential developments underway, in the application stage or proposed indicate the anticipated 3,830 will be reached by 2040. 75% of the new housing units are single family units (appealing to families) and 25% are multi‐family units.

The District of Peachland expect most of the new development will be through infill in existing neighbourhoods. A number of major developments have been proposed for the more buildable areas of Peachland over the long term. The Lower Princeton (including Beach Ave), New Monaco and Ponderosa neighbourhoods have been under consideration for many years and Area Sector Plans were completed, but at this time development does not appear to be advancing.

This area in the last ten years has not experienced the growth seen in the CNB Family area. Developments in this area have continued to proceed through initial planning stages. There are some new residential units starting to come online; however, a large supply of new units may be delayed due to market conditions, financial backing or a large number of other factors. It is likely the developments will proceed in the future, the School District may not see an impact on enrolment for at least 7 to 10 years.

GMS Births

Births in Central Kelowna North have average 325 the last 3 years. The average has been similar since 2014.

GMS Family Youth Population

The youth population has been very steady over the last five years and it is anticipated this will continue. A change in market conditions for increase housing demand may change this forecast.
