Introductory Statement: June is Pride Month! Pride Month began with the Stonewall riots, a series of riots for gay liberation that took place over several days beginning on June 28, 1969. The riots began after a police raid at the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar located within Lower Manhattan in New York City. Kelowna is holding their Pride week events this week in various locations across the city. As a country, Canada is moving towards being more inclusive, but there are still areas where we, as members of the human population, can still grow. In this activity, we will be learning about facts about LGBTQ rights and events in Canada.
Task: A question will be asked (by the web leader) and four options will be given. Kids will stand in the corner of the option that they think is the correct answer. Example Below:

What does the word “aromantic” mean?
Someone who doesn’t have any emotions.
Someone who feels little or no romantic attraction.
Someone who is antisocial.
Someone who loves aromatic herbs.
Fact: An aromantic person feels little or no romantic attraction, meaning that they don’t fall in love like the rest of the population. Aromanticism is a spectrum that includes many variations (Grey-romantic people only feel romantic attraction under specific conditions. Others need to have a very strong connection with the person before they develop feelings of romantic attraction). Even if the majority of aromantic people are not interested in being in a relationship. It does not mean that they stay alone or they don’t feel love: they can live surrounded by the love of their family and friends.

Fact: Before decriminalization in 1969, people who were homosexual could be sentenced to between 5 to 14 years in prison. In 1892, a law made “gross indecency” between men illegal, which included any gesture indicating same-sex attraction, including simple touching, dancing and kissing. In 1953, these laws were extended to women.
