How are we Bitterroot Collaborators?
Chief Spitlem offers us the perspective of inter-connectedness and relationships and teaches us about working with others to create new understandings. Bitterroot reminds us that learning and leading is experimental, reflective and relational. That it requires patience and time. We began year three with a community inquiry into the identity of the Four Food Chiefs. It became apparent that we, as educators related to the Bitterroot Chief. Deep roots had begun to form in the community teacher relationships. We recognized each other’s strengths and honoured each other’s contributions. We made space for additional teacher collaboration, with the addition of two more educators and the continued involvement of non-enrolling staff. Through this, we continued to model what healthy collaboration looked like for our students.
