How are we Innovators and Saskatoon Berries?

More than ever, Year 3 taught us about adapting and changing when we were faced with disruptions, and pandemics. While our roles varied throughout the year, they were truly put to the test when remote learning became the new normal. The collaborative roles we relied on were instrumental in pressing forward as we launched an entirely new curriculum framework online. Without our established roles and experience with collaboration, remote learning would have been much more of a challenge.

Creativity was required more than ever to get us through 2020. Transposing our close knit learning environment to an isolated virtual mode was a definite contrast. After connecting with our students virtually we realized that reaching all 75 of them would be a huge challenge. Once again, our strengths made it possible to divide and conquer and engage the students in different ways. We took a step back and re-evaluated how to divvy up the teaching load efficiently so that students were given choice and variety within their days at home. Our teaching partners at the time were instrumental in thinking creatively to get the kids outside and have them interact with projects that weren’t always screen based. Fortunately, some of us [Emma] had fostered quality connections with support students and was able to leverage that connection to provide ongoing personalized instruction to kids who typically found school a challenge.
