This year, we have taken your feedback and decided that we will be offering some different options. This is an open invitation and you can determine which option(s) work best for you.
Option 1: Monthly zoom sessions on Mondays 1/month where we will come together to learn about topics that are most interesting to the group. Some of the things that have been coming up so far include: Indigenizing numeracy (numeracy on the land), learning that is connected to the syilx moon calendar, two eyed seeing, the connection between the arts and the land, local understandings of the First Peoples Principles of Learning, etc. Here is the zoom link for these sessions.
Option 2: Monthly sessions on the land on Thursdays 1/month. This will include nsyilxcən Language Lessons with Jasmine Peone & Elder Pamela Barnes based on the syilx 13 moon calendar.
During the first hour (4:00 – 5:00) we will be meeting on the land and engaging in land-based learning experiences. This will also be a chance to connect and share with others who are on this learning journey.
During the second hour (5:00 – 6:00) we have contracted Jasmine Peone & Elder Pamela Barnes to teach us an ongoing series of nsyilxcən Language Lessons which will be connected with syilx 13 moon calendar. This series is first come, first served as we only have 30 spots available. You will have to pre-register for these lessons and we ask that you commit to attending all of the sessions.
If you are interested, please register HERE.
Childcare will be available.
*Participants will also receive a set of nsyilxcən language cards created by Michelle Joe which include family terms, traditional foods, animals, and feelings & actions.
Option 3: There has been a lot of interest in learning more about how we might integrate syilx captikʷł into the learning experiences we engage in with students as we learn more about syilx ways of knowing and being.
To support the teachings of Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and nsyilxcən language teachers that have gifted us with a variety of captikʷł we will be hosting a series of informal conversations to make sense of these teachings.
To that end, we would like to invite you to a monthly lunch time zoom meet up that we are calling our captikʷł lunch group where we come together for one lunch hour per month on Tuesdays to learn and discuss in community. Here is the zoom link for these sessions.
If you are interested in joining these lunch time zooms, please register HERE.
*Participants who commit to all of these sessions will receive a copy of the book – Coyote Stories by Mourning Dove, which includes a variety of local captikʷł. Those who can only attend sometimes will receive excerpts from the book as required.
We will be meeting on Mondays once a month online. Please join when you are able.
