On Wednesday, September 23, our fish mural was installed along our fence line. A big thank you to Jacqueline Pizzey, Jessica Moore, Torrey McLaren, Varda Hussain, and Nurdip Khakh for taking time out of their day to help bring this project to life for us with the support of the coordinators from Stream of Dreams.
As a school community, we are proud to share our learning and growing understanding of water conservation and our local streams. This vibrant and colourful mural is a wonderful reflection of our students and their connection to the environment.
Our annual Terry Fox run was a huge success this morning! A big thank you to all of our parent volunteers who supported the run helping to supervise the course in the neighbourhood as well as on our school field. Plus a big thank you to Mrs. Vasko and Mrs. Marsich for organizing the event for our whole community. You can also donate online:

Help us raise $800!
If your child or family are experiencing any sort of difficulty at home, we would like to provide additional support at school. We understand that you are not always able to share details, and that’s okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please email your child's teacher with the subject line “handle with care.” No text within the email body or explanation is needed, and no questions will be asked. This will help us know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.
Ordering is now available on School Cash Online and we will be partnering with Panago for this year. Follow this link to create an account if you haven't already done so https://centralokanagan.schoolcashonline.com/
Last day to order for the fall term will be September 30 and the first pizza Wednesday will be October 7 until December 16.
A reminder to our parent community that the school speed zone is 30 km/h from 7:30am - 5:00pm on school days.
Family Handbook
Please take the time to familarize yourself with our Family Handbook. It outlines the details of our Code of Conduct as well as key information about our school procedures.
School Fees @ HGE
All of your child(ren)'s school supplies are provided by the school. Each student at Helen Gorman Elementary School has been assigned a school fee of $50.00 ($40.00 for school supplies and $10.00 for a cultural fee). We ask that this fee is paid as soon as possible. We encourage all fees to be paid online using the School Cash Online program which can be access HERE and pay fees now! All schools in Central Okanagan Public Schools use the same online program. If you have never used the program, you must register first.
The Central Okanagan Public School's Financial Hardship Clause
Within Administrative Procedure – Student Fees (Regulations), the Board of Education has indicated "that a student will not be excluded from any educational program due to financial hardship". Clause 8.5 in the Administrative Procedure states: "Principals are directed to establish a procedure in each school which will allow for the private and confidential consideration of financial circumstances of individual students and families. Such procedures will preserve the dignity of families who may be unable to pay". Please contact Jessica Anjos, jessica.anjos@sd23.bc.ca if you are facing a financial hardship that may restrict the ability of your child to access a school program.
Student Accident Insurance
Central Okanagan Public Schools does not insure expenses for student injuries that occur on school grounds or during school activities. Parents and guardians can voluntarily purchase private accident insurance. Student Accident Insurance by StudyInsured is a voluntary plan that provides coverage for students and their families against accidental injury, unexpected medical expenses, and critical illness. Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5 student(s) who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Virginia Nymeyer by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
