On Tuesday, September 29 the students and staff of Helen Gorman Elementary honoured National Truth and Reconciliation Day (observed on September 30) by wearing orange. Individual classes learned about the importance of orange shirt day, a day to honour residential school survivors, their families, and remember those that didn’t come home. Students discussed the value and importance that every child matters. Each student is represented in our school wide mural with an orange handprint. You can learn more by watching THIS video.
Zac Gauthier, musician, brought his talents to our school on October 1. Zac's goal is share his love of people through the pure joy of music. You can learn more about his Bring the Noise Music Academy by clicking HERE.
Do you care about kids, climate, and your community? We need you!
CARE (Climate Action Ripple Effect) is seeking passionate community mentors to work alongside and support small teams of middle and secondary students as they design real world solutions to local climate challenges.
No matter your skills, background, or area of interest, we can match you with a CARE student team in your community. Your guidance can help empower young innovators, strengthen community connections, and make a meaningful difference.
By becoming a CARE mentor, you will help advance all three priorities of our new District Strategic Plan by supporting student learning and agency, strengthening family and community connections, and contributing to a sustainable future for all learners.
Join us in helping students turn their ideas into action and create positive change in our communities.
For more information, visit Climate Action Ripple Effect or see the attached poster.

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5 student(s) who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Virginia Nymeyer by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
