**Please check out the monthly calendar on our website for upcoming important dates**
If your child or family are experiencing any sort of difficulty at home, I would like to provide additional support at school. I understand that you are not always able to share details, and that’s okay. If your child is coming to school after a difficult night, morning, or weekend, please email me with the subject line “handle with care.” No text within the email body or explanation is needed, and no questions will be asked. This will help me know that your child may need extra time, patience, or help during the day.
We welcomed 28 kindergarteners to Helen Gorman Elementary this year! We are excited about the new beginnings for our youngest learners. We enjoyed beautiful sunshine and even the rain!
Our annual Terry Fox school run is just around the corner and we are very excited to be part of this incredible event. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the fight against cancer while empowering our students to become compassionate changemakers in our community. Throughout the week of September 21-25 will be collecting “Toonies for Terry” in our classes. You can also donate online:
https://schools.terryfox.ca/HelenGormanElementary.
Help us raise $800! On Friday, September 25, we will be running for Terry. We are looking for 5 parent volunteers to help us on the course! Please email tracey.vasko@sd23.bc.ca if you have a current Criminal Record Check and can join us for the morning from 8:45-10:00am.

School Fees @ HGE
All of your child(ren)'s school supplies are provided by the school. Each student at Helen Gorman Elementary School has been assigned a school fee of $50.00 ($40.00 for school supplies and $10.00 for a cultural fee). We ask that this fee is paid as soon as possible. We encourage all fees to be paid online using the School Cash Online program which can be access HERE and pay fees now! All schools in Central Okanagan Public Schools use the same online program. If you have never used the program, you must register first.
The Central Okanagan Public School's Financial Hardship Clause
Within Administrative Procedure – Student Fees (Regulations), the Board of Education has indicated "that a student will not be excluded from any educational program due to financial hardship". Clause 8.5 in the Administrative Procedure states: "Principals are directed to establish a procedure in each school which will allow for the private and confidential consideration of financial circumstances of individual students and families. Such procedures will preserve the dignity of families who may be unable to pay". Please contact Jessica Anjos, jessica.anjos@sd23.bc.ca if you are facing a financial hardship that may restrict the ability of your child to access a school program.
The Central Okanagan School District's Sanctuary School Policy
Board Policy 4030 – Sanctuary Schools (see www.sd23.bc.ca) upholds the Board's commitment to providing educational opportunities for all students who are ordinarily resident in the Central Okanagan, including those with precarious immigration status or no immigration status.
Student registrations that pertain to Policy 4030 – Sanctuary Schools will be processed through the Welcome Centre.

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5 student(s) who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Virginia Nymeyer by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
