STEM- Design and Engineering
Students have been learning about weather and the importance of the sun's energy. We have been tracking weather, reporting weather conditions on a daily basis and learning about severe weather conditions. Discussions have focused on how the weather affects our daily lives. Our class spent time reading and revisiting the story The Three Little Pigs. This classic story was used as a springboard for a discussion on materials used while building homes/shelters. The various materials from the story were introduced and explained (straw, sticks, brick).
For one activity, students were all given building supplies and the challenge to build a home/ shelter for the Little Pigs. The goal was design and build a shelter which would stand as well as protect the Pigs from weather conditions. Their homes of course had to protect them from the Big Bad Wolf.
I hope you enjoy seeing their hard work.
