This unit of instruction and exploration introduces students to observing their world and articulate their observations. Reasoning and dialogue begin immediately. Students learn how to analyze objects and even numbers. They are asked to compare objects that are the same as well as look at how they are different. Next we will move to counting objects and comparing more than or less than. Students will practice counting sequence and one to one correspondence. We will also be learning how to write numbers 0-10 as well as demonstrating numbers can be formatted and modeled using many different formats such as in a tens frame, using tally marks, drawing amount, writing the number word, telling a story and finding on a number line.
I encourage you to practice counting out small objects or even large ones at home with your child. Let them show how many new ways they can demonstrate a number amount.
