7/13: Summer reading is enforced to keep your child practicing and reinforcing his/her skills:

Why our children need to read books, not "grade savers" (e.g., SparkNotes; Schmoop); an article about college readiness for students of all ages/ disciplines.
Distracted Homework: The simple fact is that students are unable to effectively do homework while watching binge-watching Netflix or responding to SnapChat. They do not retain what they are learning AND assignments take exponentially longer to complete.

....and on that subject, colleges actually DO look at social media accounts. How heartbreaking it would be to have 5 years of hard work at PRHS destroyed by a few careless words on Twitter: "Colleges Really Are Looking..."
Taking Notes vs Taking Pictures: Research proves that learning from taking notes longhand is much better than snapping a picture of notes on the board. If your child needs to take a picture of notes, s/he should be handcopying those notes into a notebook later: "A Learning Secret"
