Mrs. O'Flynn ~ 6th Grade Math
Classwork/Homework 2022-2023
When a student is absent from school or class (nurse, music lesson, etc.) - it is his/her responsibility to refer to this web page for missed assignments. Missed assignments should be made up within two school days of the original assignment date.
Please speak with Mrs. O'Flynn to set up a schedule to complete all missed assignments.
PLEASE REMEMBER that this page is to be used as a SECONDARY source for homework information,
with the first being the agenda pad.
Students are always responsible for writing their homework down in the agenda pad as it is written on my classroom homework board.
Tuesday, June 20
The Final Benchmark Exam was handed back today. While we do not have time for students to make corrections for 20% back, it is extremely important that students reflect and review on this assessment as it is a great review and great for preparation for next year.
Here is the video tutorial reviewing the test. For each question, I included the question from the review sheet that gave you an indication that you should review that concept.
After reviewing the video, if you would like additional time to go over any concepts, please see me.
Today we watched the movie Paper Planes.
Homework
Friday, June 16 - Periods 1,3,4 - We went outside and flew our paper airplanes recording the results.
Period 9 - Due to rain, we stayed inside...we hope to fly the planes on Tuesday, June 20
Thursday, June 15 - Trip to Veterans Park
Wednesday, June 14
Goal - Students will study the design of two different air planes and observe the differences between the two.
Classwork
Outline of our week ahead. - Today we are going outside to fly our planes and measure the distances flown.
Groups - you should have at least three flights recorded for EACH of the two planes. You can have more….
Here are your three options….watch all three and choose what two you would like to do.
When measuring the distance:
You must fly each plane at least three times….but go as many times as the period allows.
Make sure you have a clear start line from where you will begin measuring the distance traveled.
You will measure the distance to where the plane stops (so if it travels on the ground, you will include that distance.)

The King's Chessboard by David Birch. The story of the doubling of rice on the chessboard is retold in a different way. The rice is measured in ounces, pounds, and tons.
The Rajah's Rice: A Mathematical Folktale from India by David Barry. When Zandra, the official bather of the Rajah's elephants, saves them from serious illness, she exacts from the Rajah a reward more costly than he realizes.
How Much Is a Million? by David Schwartz. The author uses things children know, such as goldfish and stars, to illustrate the concepts of a million, a billion, and a trillion.”
