Students may check-out a maximum of 2 books. Exceptions are made for textbooks and curriculum materials.
Books are commonly checked out during library periods and must be returned within 3 weeks. If books are not returned, and the maximum number of checkouts is reached, a student may not check out more books until they have returned their previous one(s). Instead, they may enjoy reading books while in the Learning Commons without formal book checkout.
Books can be renewed a maximum of 2 times before they must be returned for circulation.
Student may place up to 2 holds on books. Books are available for pick up during library periods. Books are held for a maximum of 3 weeks.
Unless a parent gives written permission, students must be in grade 6 or above to check out YA books.
Unless given special permission, students may not take out teacher resources (TR).
Students are responsible for their library books and textbooks.
Books are considered lost if not returned after one month. Students may not sign out new materials until lost books are found or paid for.
Damaged books (liquid, pen, crayon, ripped pages) must be shown to the Librarian to determine if the book can be repaired or paid for. Please do not try to fix books at home, as we have special materials to repair the damage.
Be book aware. Do not share your library book with others. Do not place your book in your backpack beside your water bottle or on damp surfaces. Avoid tearing or writing on pages. Consider keeping your library book in a plastic book bag to keep it safe until you can return it.
If you, or a close family member, are socially isolating due to covid or unconfirmed symptoms of covid, please do not return library materials. Contact the OLA Main Office to let them know that you will not be returning library materials until after you are well or have received confirmation that you do not have covid. We will not hold you responsible for late materials due to covid. Thank you for helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
If there is a confirmed case of COVID within a cohort, some library services (ex. Distributing books) may be suspended until the circulation of materials is safe. During these times, we recommend that students and teachers make use of the excellent online resources available through the Our Lady of the Assumption Library and the Calgary Public Library.
All library materials returned by students and staff are either sanitized or isolated until the next business day to ensure student and staff safety. If COVID is confirmed in a cohort, all materials distributed to that cohort will be thoroughly sanitized and/or may be kept in isolation for an extended period of time out of an abundance of caution. See "COVID Protocols" for additional information.
Enjoy reading your books!
If you have a problem, let the Librarian know about it so that we can figure it out together.
