Rhythm as Remedy: Tap Dance for Connection
M’Kayla Kongnetiman is a multidisciplinary dance artist, educator, and emerging choreographer based in Mohkinstsis/Calgary. She specializes in rhythm-based practices, with a focus on tap, jazz, contemporary, ballet, hip hop, and West African dance. M’Kayla is a graduate of Decidedly Jazz Danceworks’ Professional Training Program and has recently completed her Bachelor of Arts in Dance and Economics at the University of Calgary.
She teaches across youth, adult, and pre‑professional programs at Decidedly Jazz Danceworks and Elite Dance Academy, and directs Fancy Footwork Dance Project, a tap‑focused initiative dedicated to accessible, joyful, and musically rich dance education. As a first‑generation Canadian with Surinamese roots, M’Kayla is passionate about community‑engaged arts, anti‑racism work, and creating spaces where dance supports wellness, connection, and personal expression.
