BrainDance and the 5-Part Lesson Plan: Holistically Engaging Your Students
This session will provide a brief introduction to the rich, brain-based work of Anne Green Gilbert. Explore how utilizing the BrainDance and the 5-Part Lesson Plan can facilitate the development of skilled movers and creators, critical thinkers and collaborators, and thoughtful responders. We will move through a sample lesson including a BrainDance warmup, exploration of a dance concept, skill development, creating, and a cool down.
Krista, a native Calgarian, enjoys sharing her love of dance with the young and young at heart as an educator and choreographer. In addition to her work with young dancers, Krista is currently an instructor with Dancing Parkinson’s YYC, University Heights Dance and Movement Program for Older Adults, and Wellspring Alberta. Krista regularly hones her craft by attending the Summer Dance Institute for Teachers at the Creative Dance Center in Seattle, Washington, and takes the philosophy of brain-compatible learning and the power of BrainDance with her into the studio. As a facilitator, Krista focuses on utilizing brain-compatible dance methodologies and promoting the physical, social, emotional, and creative benefits of dancing. Academically, Krista completed a Master of Arts degree in Sociology with a focus in the Sociology of Dance, Sport, and Health from the University of Calgary and continues to work in the field of health research.
