All academic classes will be done with students and reviewed by counselors. This includes: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and PE
There are no honors classes in the 6th grade. There is an accelerated math class in 6th grade
7th and 8th Grade Students that receive "A's" both Semesters in an English or Social Studies class are automatically placed in honors classes.
8th Grade is the only year Science Honors is offered. Students must be concurrently enrolled in Algebra CP or Algebra H to be considered for Science Honors.
Math Placement
Math 6 Accelerated
A's and B's in 5th grade math for all three trimesters and 83% or higher on the CVUSD benchmark exam (end of course exam)
Math 7 Accelerated
Current 6 CP students: A or B in Math 6 CP semester 1 to qualify for Boost Camp
Current 6 Accelerated students: A's or B's in Math 6 Accelerated semesters 1 and 2
Algebra 1 CP
A or B Semester 1 in Math 7CP and 83% or higher on the District Benchmark Exam AND 70% or higher on the Boost Camp Exam
Algebra 1 H
A's or B's in Math 7 Accelerated semester 1 and 2
Students who are unable to attend the Boost Camp are welcome to study on their own to prepare for the Boost Camp exam; an academic petition is required as well. Students must score at least 80% on the exam to be considered for enrollment in the accelerated course in the Fall. See below for online study guide information.

Academic Petitions
Academic Petition is required if your student does not meet the below automatic qualifications.
Petitions for Honors classes are due June 1st. These are for students taking math boost camp or students that want honors classes for any other subject that want a higher level course but don’t automatically qualify because of extenuating circumstances.
