Hello Vipers! My name is Rebecca Wustrau and I am excited to be teaching Introduction to Engineering Design this year!
I am an Engineer-turned-Teacher and I love being able to share the experience and knowledge I gained over the past 20 years in the industry with the students of tomorrow's generation. I couldn't have asked for a better second career!
This year will be my seventh year teaching full-time at Vandegrift High School and prior to full-time teaching, I was a part-time AVID Tutor for three years at VHS. I fell in love with the AVID program and loved being a part of such an amazing high school! In addition to my engineering career, I was also a business owner for many years. I owned an after school education enrichment program for 14 years where I taught students of all ages. It was here, I believe, that my passion for teaching took its roots!
I graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. I began my engineering career in aircraft design, customizing Head of State aircraft in Waco, Texas. I then moved to Austin, Texas where I worked in the semiconductor equipment industry at Applied Materials. I was fortunate to work in design and manufacturing engineering and held several leadership positions in engineering management, project and program management. I feel fortunate and blessed to now be able to give back to my community as an educator in technology, and I hope to ignite a passion for engineering in this next generation of students.
My husband and I have three amazing children and two dogs, Lily and Maisy. I love that my children are/were students in Leander ISD. I have one Vandegrift Viper, Michael, who is a senior this year! My two formers Vipers are at university; Maddy is a senior at Colorado State University and Mia is a sophomore at the University of Arkansas! I love the VHS family, and I cannot wait to partner with each of you on your academic journey this year. Go Vipers!
