Hello and welcome to Vista Ridge High Sculpture. After taking the prerequisite foundation class, Art I, students can then take Sculpture each year after, beginning with Sculpture II and then Sculpture III (Intermediate) and lastly, Sculpture IV (Advanced Ceramics). In their junior or senior year, students have the option to take AP Art (3-D).
The studio classroom is set up for the student. It’s their space to learn, explore, create and maintain. In Sculpture, each student is held responsible for planning, creating, and cleaning up after themselves along with working together to keep the workspace safe and clean.
This course will be an exploration of new and recycled materials and techniques with an appreciation of sculptural three-dimensional forms. Each class level builds on the knowledge, possibilities, and practices of the previous level course. Historical and contemporary concepts ranging from representational figures to abstract forms are investigated. Some of the materials used may include clay, wood, metal, cloth, paper, and plaster. Students will be required to keep a sketchbook; hand drawing is required.
