Hello and welcome to Vista Ridge High Ceramics. After taking the prerequisite foundation class, Art I, students can then take Ceramics each year after, beginning with Ceramics II and then Ceramics III (Intermediate) and lastly, Ceramics IV (Advanced Ceramics). In their junior or senior year, students have the option take AP Art (3-D).
The studio classroom is set up for the student. It’s their space to learn, explore, create and maintain. In Ceramics, each student is held responsible for planning, creating and cleaning up after themselves along with working together to keep the work space safe and clean.
Ceramics class introduces the medium of clay and each level builds on the knowledge, possiblities and practices of working with clay as well as the history of ceramics. Students will create no less than twelve works of art that demonstrate both this knowledge and their ability to reflect on the world in which they live.They will learn not only art production, but also critique, aesthetics, and history which will increase both their artistic and critical thinking skills.

Projects-
Projects will include the basic methods of hand building such as pinch, coil, slab, and modeling. Each project will also introduce a decorative element such as pressing, sgraffito, carving, piercing, applique, and glazing. The second semester will introduce basic skills on the pottery wheel.
