Art 1

ABOUT THE COURSE: This course is an introduction to art history, design and a variety of art media. Students will enjoy working with graphite, charcoal, acrylic paint, watercolor, clay, colored pencil, collage, printmaking, etc. This class is exploratory and very fun, but it is also guided and focused. Students should expect to work hard, enjoy a community atmosphere and work closely with the teacher as a mentor. Art 1 meets the Fine Arts requirement for graduation.

Art 1 is a prerequisite for all upper level art classes. Art 1 as a prerequisite may be bypassed for the following reasons:

1. Art 1 high school credit earned in middle school

2. Advanced art courses in middle school (not for credit)

3. Portfolio review
