Homework

READING HOMEWORK: My goal is for each student to become an avid readers. I will encourage my students to read a variety of genres, and we will set reading goals for the marking period. Please make sure your child is reading 20-30 minutes each night in order to reach these goals. NO MORE READING LOGS!

WRITING HOMEWORK: Students are also responsible for finishing any writing assignments not completed in class. If your child has not completed his/her essay by Friday, it will become homework for the weekend. Getting behind on the writing process affects your kid's learning for the whole week!

Spelling at Home:

-Practice 5-10 high-frequency words from the provided list each week.

-Highlight words on the list as they are mastered (able to spell correctly in a paragraph).

-Request a harder list once all words are highlighted.

Simple Ideas for Practicing Spelling:

-Rainbow Writing (practice writing your words correctly in rainbow colors)

-Password (you must spell words correctly to enter the kitchen, car, etc)

-Create silly paragraphs that include your words.

-Download worksheets/apps

-Ransom Words- Cut out letters from newspapers, magazines, or junk mail to create your words.
