I am so excited to be part of the River Place specials team again this year! Between private lessons, subbing and working as an I.A. in P.E., this is my 27th year working with Leander ISD students and my 9th year as a Performing Arts Teacher! I graduated from California State University, Fresno (Go Dogs!) with a Bachelor's and Masters in Music Performance. I spent 2 years at UT, Austin (Hook'em) working on a Doctorate, however I decided College students was not where my heart was! My husband of 27 years, works for a major tech company in Austin. We have 2 daughters. Our oldest graduated with her MA in the Spring and is continuing her Music Education at Indiana University working on her DMA in Music Performance. Our youngest will be a Senior at Michigan State University (Go Green!) and will be continuing her studies in Chemical Engineering and will be playing in the Spartan Marching Band this fall! We are all brass players so we have a lot of fun performing together as a family! We also have 2 adorable beagles and a new grand puppy who require lots of walks and lap time!
My personal passion outside school is performing in community groups! I am principal horn for Austin Civic Orchestra where student tickets are always free! I also play with Cedar Park Winds, a mostly music educator based group that performs for the community for free at least 2 times a year. I occasionally play with Austin Brass Collective who puts on free concerts regularly and performs fantastic music!
I am excited to get this year started and to be in the classroom with your students! The website has all of the grade performance dates and times except Kinder, that will be given later and concurs with EOY Kinder team events. Every grade level will be performing for parents throughout the year! As we get closer to performances, music will be available in students google classrooms for 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades. This includes all songs, scripts, and dances! K-1 will be practicing in the classroom only.
