Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education – to benefit from teacher – led school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.

La asistencia regular a la escuela es esencial para que un estudiante aproveche al máximo su educación, para beneficiarse de las actividades escolares dirigidas por el maestro, para desarrollar el aprendizaje de cada día en el día anterior y para crecer como individuo. Las ausencias de la clase pueden resultar en una seria interrupción del dominio de los materiales de instrucción de un estudiante; por lo tanto, el estudiante y el padre deben hacer todo lo posible para evitar ausencias innecesarias.

Does Attendance really matter?    Yes, it is critical to your student succeeding in school and in life.  Students miss fundamental reading and math skills when they do not attend regularly causing them to have to work harder to catch up.  

¿Importa realmente la asistencia? Sí, es fundamental para que su estudiante tenga éxito en la escuela y en la vida. Los estudiantes pierden las habilidades fundamentales de lectura y matemáticas cuando no asisten con regularidad, lo que los obliga a trabajar más duro para ponerse al día.

How many absences are too many?     State law requires a student attend 90% of the days class is offered.  Students that miss 10% of the school year – that is about 18 missed days or 2 days a month – can knock them off track.  Studies show that students with 10 or more unexcused absences in a single year were 15.5 times more likely to drop out of high school. 

¿Cuántas ausencias son demasiadas? La ley estatal requiere que un estudiante asista al 90% de los días en que se ofrece la clase. Los estudiantes que pierden el 10% del año escolar, es decir 18 días perdidos o 2 días al mes, pueden desviarlos. Los estudios muestran que los estudiantes con 10 o más ausencias injustificadas en un solo año tenían 15,5 veces más probabilidades de abandonar la escuela secundaria.

When your child is absent they lose an opportunity to learn and engage with his/her teachers and classmates.  Teachers have to slow down classroom instruction to help him/her to get caught up.

Cuando su hijo está ausente, pierde la oportunidad de aprender e interactuar con sus maestros y compañeros de clase. Los maestros tienen que ralentizar la instrucción en el aula para ayudarlo a ponerse al día.
