$55 (Bezel) - Missing keyboard keys. These keys require upwards force (quite a bit actually) not downwards pressure in order to be removed. Any missing keys will be considered intentional and a fine issued. Please do not pull off keys on the keyboard as this requires the full laptop to be disassembled and the entire bezel (the main plastic component holding everything together) to be replaced in order to fix even just one key. I can't hand the laptop to another student in the future with missing keys.
I hand out a piece of paper with every newly issued laptop (all incoming 6th graders 100% receive this) that explains in bold red and highlighted yellow letters that any missing keys will incur the fine.
$129 - Broken LCD. Any damage not due to an accident to the screen will incur a $129 fine.
$55 (Bezel) - You may be written a fine for the bezel (the main plastic portion that holds your laptop together), this is all contingent on the overall condition of your laptop. If I can tell that you've intentionally bored scratches into the laptop or have abused it in any way, that will be considered intentional damage and you will be charged a fine accordingly for the component that will need to be replaced. If it's obvious the device has been dropped excessively and not just a couple of accidental times, that's still neglect and may incur a fine.
