RBMS CHOIRS

6th GRADE CHOIR

This is the beginner choir offered to any interested 6th grader. In 6th grade, students will learn foundational aspects of singing in an ensemble through informal and formal stage performances. Students will be expected to work hard with their classmates and fellow choir members. However, our #1 goal in 6th grade choir is to have FUN!

6th grade choir is offered during 1st and 6th periods and both perform as one large ensemble. This will give us opportunities to expand our repertoire and create a tighter community in 6th grader choir.

7TH & 8TH GRADE TENOR/BASS CHOIR

The Tenor/Bass choir is available for all 7th and 8th grade male voices. Students who have experience in choir, as well as first-timers, will find a place in this choir. The curriculum for this choir will focus on the changing male voice, part singing, team building, and skills related to musicianship. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities designed to instill a love for music, challenge their vocal ability, and provide opportunities for growth as an individual. Students in this choir will perform at concerts, attend a few after school rehearsals, have the opportunity to perform on choir tours (while missing school!), and have the *option to audition for a spot in the Middle School Region Choir in the fall. Students in this choir will also perform at UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Evaluation in the spring.

7TH & 8TH GRADE JV TREBLE CHOIR

This is an intermediate choir that is available to 7th and 8th grade girls. The curriculum for our JV choirs will be very similar to the varsity choir's curriculum, with one of the big exceptions being the pacing. While many of these students are returning choir members, we will also welcome those who are brand new to choir. Our goal is to get everyone on the same page to create beautiful and fun music as a team, while learning and refining the skills needed to sing musically. Aside from rehearsal and concerts, students in these choirs will be given a couple of additional opportunities to compete and perform. One being the *option to compete in the Middle School Region Choir auditions to be part of the Region Choir in the fall. The other being in a choir that is eligible to compete at UIL in the spring.

7TH & 8TH GRADE VARSITY TREBLE

This is an auditioned ensemble designed to engage students who have been in choir at least 1 year, demonstrate an aptitude for musicality, and who also show a great deal of leadership and accountability inside and outside the choir room. Female students who are entering 7th and 8th grade will have the opportunity to audition. The Varsity Choir is for students who are up for a challenge and are interested in refining not only their vocal skills, but their overall musical skill as well. The music performed by our varsity choir requires students to have prior knowledge and understanding of many musical notations and vocal pedagogy to be successful. These students are expected to be leaders for our choir program and will be asked on multiple occasions to showcase this skill. Being a member of a varsity choir will require extra performances throughout the year, outside of the expected rehearsals and concerts. Again, like the JV choirs, students in these choirs will be eligible to participate in UIL in the spring and have the *option to compete in the Middle School Region Choir process in the fall.

*Please note that we will not require varsity students to participate in Region auditions in the fall, but we will highly encourage them.
