Unit of Study 2--Musical and Theatrical Storytelling

This engaging unit blends music, movement, and theatre to deepen students’ understanding of melodic patterns, cultural stories, and expressive storytelling. Students begin by learning and practicing So, Mi, La melodic patterns through singing and cultural dances, building a connection between music and movement. They then explore puppetry inspired by Carnival of the Animals, creating simple puppets to dramatize stories while enhancing imagination and collaboration. Next, they develop characterization skills by expressing emotions and voices through movement, instruments, and role play, using familiar stories like Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The unit culminates with a performance of The Three Billy Goats Gruff, where students combine melodic patterns, puppetry, voice, and movement to bring the story to life, while practicing audience etiquette and teamwork. Aligned with Texas TEKS for music and theatre, this unit nurtures creativity, confidence, and cultural appreciation through active, joyful participation.
