Programme of Inquiry (POI) 2022-2023

The Program of Inquiry (POI) is the "structure that articulates loosely what, when, and how to explore the transdisciplinary themes from 3-12 years." (Learning and Teaching, p.8).  Mason Elementary has Kindergarten (5-6 years of age) to Grade 5 (11-12 years of age). Kindergarten does 4 themes per year and G1-G5 do 6 themes per year. At the end of each school year the POI is reviewed and analyzed and published. The POI is responsive to the current needs of the classroom and the students each year as well as a continuum of learning across the programme from K-G5. It is planned using the TEKS (Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills) as the foundation of learning outcomes. The universal themes are enduring and broad to meet the needs of our diverse learners and based on concepts which supports transfer of knowledge across the transdiciplinary themes for deeper learning and understanding.
