Growing Compassionate Community Contributors
The primary purpose of social studies is the integration of history, the social sciences, geography, and the humanities to promote civic competence in our citizenry. Such individuals are well-informed, critical thinkers, who are prepared for the social and personal responsibilities of participating in a democratic society in an ever changing world. Leander ISD has made social studies a priority in our graduate profile. A social studies classroom in Leander ISD should be a place where students have an opportunity to practice the craft of historians, economists and geographers and allow students opportunities to practice the rights and responsibilities of a citizen. Students do this by exploring engaging questions, examining documents and resources from a variety of perspectives, making meaning of the content through the disciplinary skills, and sharing their understandings or taking action.
