JOIN THE CADETS

About The Team:

We believe that an exemplary dance program is an extension of the classroom. As such, being a part of the dance team offers an opportunity to develop and grow physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially.

There are many positive benefits that participation in dance team offers, such as: developing dance technique and performance skills, fostering self-discipline and self-confidence, encouraging selflessness, promoting team spirit and nurturing an appreciation for artistic endeavors.

Our team is a unique group of highly motivated young dancers that work together to achieve great things! The Crimson Cadets have many performances throughout the year - to include CPMS home football games, pep rallies, competitions, and spring shows.

The window to join the 2023-2024 Crimson Cadets has closed, but please check back in the spring to see information about joining the 2024-2025 team.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to the Crimson Cadet Directors:

FAQ's

Do I have to be flexible? What skills should I work on?

What is Cadet Clinic/Placement Auditions?

Cadet Clinic is an opportunity for dancers to learn all about the program. Dancers work on strength & conditioning, technical skills, and learn a dance routine. Placement Auditions will be held during this time to determine whether a potential Cadet will be placed on Performance Team OR Dance Team.

Do you have to tryout to be on the team?

All LISD Middle School Dance Teams follow a "no-cut" policy. HOWEVER, you must fulfill all obligations (attend mandatory events (including summer camps), uniform fittings, and meet paperwork/financial deadlines) to join the team.

There are two teams under the Crimson Cadets program: The Performance Team and the Dance Team.

Having two teams allows our program to build a strong technical foundation for each member based on their current level/overall knowledge of the art of dance. (Similar to other fine arts and academic courses, like Band, Choir, Pre-AP, PACE Math, etc.) There will be combined performances as well as separate dance opportunities for both groups. More information will be given at the Interest Meeting and outlined in the Interest Packet.

When do the Crimson Cadets practice?

In the fall, usually before school at 7:30am on Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Fridays. In the spring, we are preparing for contest season (Performance Team) and specific routines will rehearse on set days @7:30am. Dance Team occasionally has practice for specific events/performances. We have a few after school and weekend rehearsals throughout the year for contest season & spring show.

What can I expect as a Crimson Cadet?

Crimson Cadets is an extracurricular performance group, not just a dance class. We do not have an off season! Being a Crimson Cadet is not only an outstanding achievement and huge honor, but being on the team is demanding physically and emotionally.  We often early in the morning, have many after school events/performances, and the expectation is comparable to any other sport in terms of level of commitment to their teammates and directors. Please make sure that you are participating for the right reasons.  All items ordered and camp fees are non-refundable once they have been paid.

Do I have to take studio dance classes?

No. However, it is highly recommended to take studio dance classes. Many of our Cadets take 1-2 classes a week at different studios in the area. Studio classes give you more hands on technique and a wide variety of skill necessary to continue dance after middle school. Classes recommended are ballet, jazz, leaps & turns, hip hop, dance team prep.

Can I be a part of my studio company?

Absolutely! However, your commitment and attendance for Crimson Cadets should not be hindered due to your obligations for your studio company.

Do I need to turn in any paperwork?

Yes - information will be provided at our Interest Meeting and detailed in the Interest Packet.

Can I be in Athletics and be on Cadets as well? Can I be a Cheerleader and be on Cadets? Can I be in Color Guard and Cadets?

For Athletics, it really depends on the individual student and their schedule. Our schedules typically conflict and it's not always possible. Cadets may not also be on Cheer or Color Guard.

Can I be in band, choir, theatre, or art and be on Cadets?

Yes. You can be involved in any of those activities and do Cadets at the same time. However, sometimes conflicts with these activities cannot be avoided. Directors do our best to communicate our schedules to each other.

How much does it cost to be a Crimson Cadet?

The cost for all practice and performance wear, shoes, accessories, and summer camp after taxes are included is approximately $500. Not included in this is competition season and any additional expenses throughout the year (t-shirts, sister gifts, etc). This also does not include replacing items that are lost, ruined, or outworn. **There are scholarships and payment plans available - please do not let the cost deter you from joining our program.

What if I can't fully commit to being on the dance team? Can I be in a regular dance class instead?

Yes, you can sign up for our year long 7th/8th grade dance class and still perform twice a year.

Do I get a PE credit for being in dance or on dance team?

Yes. You will receive a full year of PE credit for participating in any dance class or for being a member of the Crimson Cadets dance team.

What is the grading policy for Cadets?

50% Participation

40% Performance

10% Minor Grades (Written Assignments, Routine Checks, Skills Checks, etc.)
