Boozhoo!
My name is Kendra Pankow and I am the Elementary and Adaptive music teacher at Lac du Flambeau Public School. I have been here since 2018 and feel so blessed to be a part of this community! I graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton WI with a Bachelors of Music in Music Education and a Bachelors of Arts in International Development. But thankfully, my education does not stop there -- as I learned from my Dad who was a music teacher, and my Mom who was a special education teacher growing up, I continue to be a lifelong learner as I learn from my students, their families, and the beautiful community that we are in everyday.
Why do I teach?
As a teacher, I hope to equip students with tools they need to be successful in life: tools to open opportunities, and tools to equip them to positively interact with their community. I don't just seek to teach the language of music and musical skills, but I have the joy of teaching future community leaders through music. Music provides students the opportunity to develop their brain with a new language, to practice the skills of listening and effectively communicating in a group, to be willing to try something new, and so much more. I teach because every person needs someone to care about them. I get to be just one of the people to care for and about each student in my class as I have the privilege of watching them grow and learn in both small and large ways. I love encouraging growth in the next generation, and I teach because I honestly love my job everyday!
What about when I'm not at school?
When I'm not at school, you might find me hanging out with my dog Wendy, skiing on trails in the winter, curled up with a nice cup of tea when it is cold, or enjoying the sun when it is warm. I am also a part of the Minocqua community Band and continue to seek out and learn from other musicians when I can! If you ever go to a Minocqua Community band concert, you will catch me playing the clarinet. :) I love being able to spend time with my community and loved ones as I learn from them and practice the skill of just 'being' with people. Thank you Lac Du Flambeau for welcoming me into your community.
