The Music program at Lac du Flambeau uses the SHARE THE MUSIC by McGraw - Hill Music Book Series.
This is a wonderful Series in my opinion. Students are exposed to a wide range of MusicalConcepts, Theory, History and Multi-Cultural Music and Traditions.
From PreK to 8th grade students are taught to sing independently, on pitch and in rhythm with appropriate timbre, diction and posture and maintain a steady tempo. Students sing from memory a varied repitoire of songs representing generes and styles from diverse cultures. In addition they sing in groups blending Vocal timbres, matching dynamic levels and responding to the cues of the Conductor/Teacher.
Students are required to perform in both the Christmas and Spring Concerts
The Book Series used Essential Elements.
Fifth through Eighth grade students are offered Band Class. This is an elective class. Students choose the Instrument they want to learn. They will have lessons on their chosen Instrument and from that point students a expected to practice and attend lessons. While in Lessons and during Practice Time and Band Class students will be expected to play on pitch, in rhythm and with appropriate dynamics and timbe and maintain a steady tempo. They will play in groups, blending instrumental timbres, matching dynamic levels and responding to the cues of the Conductor/Teacher.
Students are required to perform in both the Christmas Concert and Spring Concerts.
Wayne Valliere (LdF Culture and Language Teacher) and I have collaborated for the past 10 years, teaching traditional songs in English and translating them into Ojibwemowin, for Christmas and Spring Concerts. This is an exciting way to keep the Ojibwe language alive!
