Round 1 the Speed Test--takes place before Mathzilla! Students, when the bell rings, walk directly from your regular classroom to the location listed above in red. Your Mathzilla! Speed Test proctor will meet you there. You might want to bring an extra snack that day to fuel your body before the test. Your proctor will bring you into the testing area and go over some directions. Then, you'll have 15 minutes to complete the test. Don't worry if you don't finish. In fact, you're not supposed to! The test is designed to be longer than what is possible to finish in 15 minutes. If everyone finished the same number of problems, we'd have a pretty hard time finding our big winners for April 18th! We don't want a 150-way tie! :) Just do your best. Every problem you finish and answer correctly counts as one point toward your school's total. Go team!
If your child is not in the Math Olympiad class that meets each week, please come to the carline for pickup at the time stated above (in red) for your child's school site. Math Olympiad students- if your child's Speed Test is the same day as their Math Olympiad class day, they will remain once the speed test is over for their regular class. Please look above (written in red) for your school's site to determine pick up time.
Round 2 and 3
The main event will take place on Thursday, April 17th at LCE. This includes Round 2 and Round 3.
Round 2- a 30-minute paper and pencil individual Problem Solving Test. Round 1 will take place during the Mathzilla! event.
Round 3-- a Team Relay. Round 3 takes place at the end of the Mathzilla! event. A four-person team from each grade level will be chosen from our current Math Olympiad teams to compete in Round 3. All other Mathzilla! participants will cheer them on!
Relay Teams will be selected based on a combination of MOEMS scores and Teacher Recommendation. These teams will be selected after MOEMS Olympiad #5 and after parents express a commitment to attend Mathzilla, in order to give teachers the most information possible to select teams.
Scores from all 3 rounds will determine which school wins Mathzilla! 9.0
Additionally, students may opt into a Rubik’s cube contest. This showcase will not count towards the overall Mathzilla team winners, but individual prizes will be awarded for the fastest cubers. For more information about the Rubik's Cube challenge click here.
