How do students join the G.A.T.E. program?
How do students join the GATE program?
LCUSD identifies gifted and talented students at the end of third grade. All students are given the opportunity to be assessed. Students who perform at the 98th and 99th percentile rank are invited to participate in the GATE program. GATE identified students make up more than 11.9% of the overall LCUSD student population.

When does additional GATE Instruction occur?
GATE-identified students in 4th-6th grade are pulled out of a non-academic part of their school day to attend this weekly enrichment class. Lessons include the elements of a differentiated GATE curriculum: acceleration, depth, complexity, and novelty.Â
Is participation in the GATE classes a requirement?
Participation in the GATE classes is not mandatory for the student to be considered a GATE student.
