I often hear students complain about ELA because they believe that all we do is write essays. While essays and papers will appear this school year, it is only a small fraction of the class. I believe that fun lessons and hands-on practice are crucial to long term literacy growth and retention. Our year in ELA will reflect these ideals.
This year, students can expect to...
Study how music correlates to poetry
Solve a murder mystery with inferencing skills
Become an actor in our class play!
Complete the TOP CHEF Challenge
Create Memes based on our novel
Analyze how our books correlate to movies and media
Build their own Utopian Societies
and so much more!

I have the honor and privilege to teach with Mrs. Buwolda during multiple (but not all) class periods. Mrs. Buwolda has her Master's Degree and co-teaches with Ms.Weitz and I. (This means that Ms.Buwolda and I instruct the class together). She is there to teach with me and help the students in the class!
Thanks to Mrs. Buwolda's presence in the classroom students will benefit from:
an increase in small group instruction and practice
lots of individual assistance with both students and their guardians
faster grading 🎉
and all the love and dedication that Mrs. Buwolda brings to the school each day. She is a true gift to the ILMS community.
