Class Rules and Expectations
1. Be Respectful.
a. Be respectful of the teacher and your classmates.
b. Be respectful of the classroom by leaving the space clean and orderly.
c. Be respectful of the belongings of the teacher and others.
2. Be Prepared.
a. Enter class every day with a positive attitude about working hard and collaboratively with your classmates.
b. Bring your class materials, including book, homework, paper, and pen/pencil with you every day.
3. Be Punctual.
a. Be on time to class! Be in your seat when the bell rings.
b. Turn in your assignments when they are due. (You need to pass the HW when the teacher request it) No late homework
4. Always do your own work.
a. Do your own work on all assignments.
b. Do not use online translators.
c. There is a ZERO TOLERANCE policy for cheating and plagiarism. If you are caught cheating (assignments, projects, homework, classwork, anything!), you will receive a “0” for that assignment, and your parents will be contacted.
Remember: YOUR BEHAVIOR= A CHOICE, YOUR CHOICES= YOUR CONSEQUENCES
Consequences for breaking Rules or Procedures
1. First Offense: Warning.
2. Second Offense: 2 minutes after class (if this is not followed, it is a direct Fourth Offense)
3. Third Offense: Parent Contacted.
4. Fourth Offense: Referral.
Classroom Procedures for Room 120
1. CLASSROOM
Every day when the student is in the classroom:
a. At the beginning, the student needs to get ready taking out textbook, workbook, paper, assignment, pencil.
b. Ask for permission if he/she needs to get out of the room during class time.
c. Don’t pack up early. The teacher dismisses the class.
d. Assignments need to be answered in blue/black pen or pencil. You need a red pen for correcting homework.
e. You can bring a bottled beverage and a snack. This is a privilege you want to keep. Please leave your seat dry and clean.
f. You can sharp pencils at the beginning of the class or during work time. Don’t do it in between of my teaching please.
g. Every day, the students have a warm-up. On Fridays, they will turn in one sheet with the warm-ups for the week. Every day needs to me with date. If the student is absent, please write date and absent. (Every day weighs 20 points)
2. ABSENT
If you miss class, it is YOUR RESPONSIBILITY to get the notes and make up assignments on your own time.
a. Check PowerSchool first to see your missing assignments. The missing assignment will be marked as “1” in PowerSchool.
b. If there is a copy of worksheets, check the trays for your class according with the day you were absent. (There are 5 trays per class. Every tray is labeled with a day of the week).
c. You have 3 days to make up work if you are absent 1 day. If you are 2 or more days absent, you have 5 days to make up work.
d. When students have an exam, the teacher will give the study guide as homework, and one day prior to the exam, the class and teacher will go over it. If a student is absent, it is her/his responsibility to check the answers with a partner.
e. Even if you are absent the day before an exam or quiz, you will still be required to take the exam/test. If you are absent two consecutive days, then you are exempt that day and you will need to make up it in 5 days.
3. PERMISSIONS
If you need to see the guidance counselor, social worker, resource teacher, or go to the main office, please go after class/school or during lunch.
a. If you need to see the nurse, please let me know, and I will fill out the appropriate form.
b. If you are late for any reason, you must have a pass from the office.
c. You may not use class time to visit any other teachers, go to the Media Center, or make up other classes’ work.
4. BATHROOM
If you need to use the bathroom:
a. Go to the restroom after arriving to the class and before the bell rings.
b. You will be able to go to the restroom during independent work time but you are responsible to finish the assignment and turn in them before the class ends.
5. GROUP WORK
The teacher will assign think-pair-share work and time.
a. Sometimes the partner will be assigned by your teacher, others you will have a chance to decide with whom to work.
b. Wait for instructions from your teacher, and wait to be dismissed.
c. It is your responsibility to finish the assignment with your partner(s).
d. During this time, the teacher will be grading who is making an effort working in group.
e. Grading for group work can be individual or by group. It depends on the assignment.
6. TUTORING
If you need extra help, arrange to come for tutoring.
a. My tutoring hours are: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 7:50 to 8:20 am
b. My tutoring hours are: Monday and Thursday from 3:35 to 4:30 pm.
c. No tutoring on Wednesday afternoon.
d. If you are not able to come during these hours talk to me.
7. COMPUTERS
The usage of computer in this class is limited. We will use Audacity to record speaking practices and that will be in the computer lab or at home as homework.
a. If you need to use the computer, ask the teacher.
8. EXAMS & QUIZZES
a. Your desk must be empty
b. You can use blue pen/ pencil
c. Put cell phones/ electronic devices away in your backpack and not in the pockets of your clothing.
d. Your bag-pack will be placed where the teacher arrange. (This will be every time you have a quiz or exam).
9. REMIND 101
Remind 101 is a communication tool that I will be using the whole semester. The teacher will create 2 different classes for Remind 101. One class will be for the students and one for the parents. I will keep in touch with both about assignments, grade updates, quizzes, projects and exams. Also Remind 101 has the option to chat with me one on one.
If you send a message over the weekend, the access is limited. Don’t get frustrated, I will answer any questions on Monday.
10. REWARD SYSTEM
Every morning, students will answer a Warm-Up. The teacher will choose at least once a week each student to come to the white-board and answer one of the questions from the Warm-Up. The teacher will give one 20 pesos bill (fake) to the student. When students have 5-20 pesos bills, they can give them to the teacher and have 1-100 quiz called Quiz-pesos. This quiz is not substituting a quiz. It is added up to the rest of the quiz grades.
Students will get 1-20 pesos when they get 90 in a quiz. Students will get 1-20 pesos when they get 100 on a quiz. This is not applicable to exams.
11. MISSING NAME AND DATE ON ASSIGNMENTS
a. If a student does not write his/her name on their paper, 5 points will be taken off the assignment.
b. If a student forgets to write the date, 5 points will be taken off the assignment.
12. HOMEWORK
a. Homework is assigned on a daily basis.
b. It could be between 1-2 pages.
c. No late homework.
d. You need to study because you will have between 1-2 quizzes every week. The student will have an exam every 2 weeks.
e. Homework is answered in blue pen/pencil.
f. The student needs a red pen for corrections.
Suggestions for Success
● Pay attention in class, do your best.
● Take clear and legible notes (this is helpful for studying)
● Do your own work (practice makes perfect)
● Ask questions
● Seek out for notes and work when you are absent.
Grading Policies:
1. Homework 10%

4.Tests 50%
Final grade: Every grading period and X2 or X4 is 20%.
(X2 or X4): * 80% grammar and vocabulary(Multiple Choice)
* 5% speaking
* 5% writing prompt
* 10% Listening and Reading
CLASSROOM NEEDS
1. Binder with notebook paper (folders and spiral notebooks are not preferable).
2. Pens and Pencils.
3. Students have the textbook as a pdf in google classroom. The teacher keeps a class set for students to use during class time.
3.1 If a student wants a textbook for keeping a home, this textbook should be assigned by Coach Horton. If this textbook is missed, a charge will be to the student's account at the end of the semester.
4. Index cards. (optional)
5. Dividers per unit. (Spanish I = 8 ) ( Spanish II = 6)
You need this by the first Friday after coming back from vacation. It will count as homework. There will be binder checks once on the grading period and the teacher will decide if it counts as homework or quiz.
