Class Overview

Welcome to Back to School Night!

Back to School Night is a time to visit the classroom, meet me, and get an idea of how things run. I hope that you will help me become a partner in your child's education. I will only have your child for one short year but I hope to make an educational contribution that will last a lifetime. Please feel free to contact me anytime should you have any questions or concerns. I'm looking forward to a GREAT year! CLASSES

This year, I am so excited to be team teaching with several other teachers: Mrs. Hampton, Ms. Persil and Mrs. Hackman. I will be your child's math and science teacher. Mrs. Hampton will be teaching reading and Virginia Studies. Ms. Persil will be teaching your child writing and spelling.

SNACK

Since we have a long morning, students will be allowed and are encouraged to bring a snack each day. Only HEALTHY snacks will be allowed (such as crackers, fruit, pretzels, yogurt, juice, etc.). The purpose of a snack is to provide students with a healthy energy boost to help them concentrate until lunch (11:35). Please be aware students may have allergies and try to avoid snacks with any kind of peanut or nuts in them .

ABSENCES / TARDIES

Please be sure that your child is in school on time every day. If your child is absent for one day, don’t forget to call the office in the morning. If you would like me to prepare make-up work, let the front office know at the time you call. I will be happy to get it together during the day. I can send it home with another student, or I can put it on the counter in the office by the end of the day. I DO need some advanced notice as I may need to make additional copies or get work from another teacher. Please understand that a great deal of my instruction is “hands-on.” We play many instructional games; therefore, the student will miss out on those activities.

If you are taking a trip, please let me and the office know in advance. Please realize that I create and tweak lesson plans on the weekends and base them around student/class progress; therefore, some work will need to be made up when the child returns. If any upcoming work is prepared, I will be happy to provide them in advance.
