Band 8 – (AKA: Advanced Band) is a co-curricular ensemble. Advanced Band students receive a grade and meet during the school day. There are several after school events for Advanced Band students, including Winter & Spring Concerts, along with special events such as field trips to PFHS for RBM Night, Combined Concerts, our Assessment Performance at Independence HS, and our annual Hershey Park Trip in June (please see the field trip section of the handbook for more information). The Advanced Band is open to River Bend Middle School students in 8th grade who have at least 2 years of playing experience or students who pass an audition.
Since you are in 8th grade you probably already have your instrument. As a reminder, students should remain on the same instrument unless they received permission from your students band director.
Since you are in your third year of band, you may be considering upgrading your instrument from a beginner level to a intermediate or professional grade instrument. This is a fantastic choice, but certainly not required, especially if your student is planning on continuing band in high school! We highly recommend reaching out to your students band director so we can help guide your search.
