London Christian Joint Transportation Service is a partnership between London Christian Elementary School and London Christian High. Stop locations are created and approved by both schools. Buses, drivers, and routes are managed by Elgie Bus Lines. The goal is to provide timely, cost-effective transportation for both school communities.
London is growing steadily, and transportation services may vary based on home location. Within urban and suburban areas, most students are picked up within walking distance of their residence.
Distance
K1–Grade 8 students can expect a walk of 800m or less. We aim to avoid major street crossings for young children.
Grade 9–12 students may walk up to 1400m.
Duration
Routes are planned to start no earlier than 7:15 AM and finish by 4:45 PM. While we aim to stay within these times, factors like traffic, construction, geography and distance between family groupings and may cause longer routes.
Availability
Bus service is not guaranteed in all areas. In outlying or low-density areas, families may need to drive students to a shared pickup point. These are planned for efficiency to keep routes reasonable.
LCES requires an annual transportation commitment while LCH expects all students will use transportation unless otherwise stated.
In both schools, in order for families to receive the best stop possible for the school year beginning in September, they must commit to using bus transportation before March 31 of that same year. Parents who commit to transportation after March 31 should expect to have to bring their children to an existing stop location along the pre-established route for that school year.
During the first few weeks of school, drivers test and review routes. Minor adjustments to run, pick-up, and drop-off times are often needed to reflect actual driving conditions. Elgie provides updated times once predictable stop patterns are identified.
From September to December, families may submit busing concerns or change requests via the online form. Requests are reviewed monthly. Only minor changes that don’t affect the overall route or other riders will be considered during this period.
In January, a full route analysis is conducted. Change requests are reviewed in detail, and where feasible, routes may be adjusted. Any approved efficiencies will be implemented by February 15.
Seating
Elementary students sit at the front of the bus for better visibility and quicker unloading, as buses stop at LCES first.
Parent Pick-Up
For safety, young riders (K1–Grade 3) must be met at the stop by a parent or accompanied by a sibling in Grade 4 or higher.
If no adult is present at the stop:
The driver contacts dispatch and continues on the route.
The bus does not wait at the stop.
Dispatch contacts the elementary principal
The principal contacts the parents
The child stays on the bus and is returned to school or taken to the next stop
Parents requesting a guest rider must contact the school office for approval.
Due to limited bus capacity, each student may have one guest per day. Multiple guests cannot be accommodated, and in some cases, no guests may be allowed. Whenever possible, requests should be made 24 hours in advance, and no later than 12:00 PM on the day of, if unplanned.
To request a guest pass, parents should email the office at London Christian Elementary or London Christian High.
Once approved, the student will receive a Bus Pass to give to the driver.
Bus delays and cancellations are communicated via BusPlanner. Parents must create an account and set up notifications. [CLICK HERE] to learn how to ensure you receive alerts.
School principals consult each other and bus providers, using available data, past experience, and Elgie safety guidelines to decide on cancellations. These decisions are typically made and shared before 7:00 AM. Each school will notify its families directly to ensure timely communication.
