Kelseyville Pioneer Cemetery

Saturday June 6th, 2026

4830 Renfro Dr., just off Hwy 29

This historic Cemetery, under shade trees, has some of the earliest pioneers of the area, with burials from 1861-1884. Sadly, it has been one of the most vandalized.

Grave dowsing was once again demonstrated, with lessons available on loaner rods.

One Book, One Coast

TOPIC: A reading and discussion of They Called Us Enemy, George Takei’s graphic memoir about his childhood incarceration in U.S. camps during World War II.

The event will also explore records found related to Japanese people who lived in Lake County prior and up to the time period of Mr. Takiei's memoir, with emphasis on the story of one Lake County resident who was detained and removed during that time. Mr. Fujino's story will be featured in an upcoming newsletter. To get your copy become a member of the L. C. Genealogical Society. The membership link is here.

This event is in conjunction with the County Library's participation in the One Book, One Coast program. a shared community reading program that celebrates literacy, learning, community, and civil discourse. The Lake County Library will join more than 140 libraries across California, Oregon, and Washington this spring for the largest book club on the West Coast. The Lake County Genealogical Society was very pleased to participate.

Glenbrook Cemetery Tour

A vibrant group of around 20 history enthusiasts and genealogists gathered at Glenbrook Cemetery on Cobb Mountain for a memorable tour organized by the Lake County Genealogical Society (LCGS). Under the expert guidance of Rose Davidson, LCGS President, and dedicated Society genealogists, the event offered a unique glimpse into the lives of those who rest beneath the cemetery's aged headstones.

Hartley Cemetery Tour

Saturday, June 28th, 2025

2552 Hill Road East, Lakeport

Turn right on Shady Lane and follow to cemetery gates,

drive through towards the lake to the old, shady section.

Grave dowsing demonstration and lessons were available.

We toured a small older section of this cemetery.

A lovely walk through the historic Lower Lake Cemetery, under shade trees and learned about the lives of some of those buried there.

St. Mary's Cemetery Tour

October 28th, 2023

The historic St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery was visited by a small group of enthusiastic genealogists during the late morning.

The different sections were explored with emphasis on learning about the lives of some of those buried in the oldest section.

Grave dowsing was demonstrated and rods were available for attendees to experience.

A mangled metal mystery was also solved!

Kelseyville Cemetery Tour

May 27th, 2023

Marilyn G. led this tour of the Kelseyville Cemetery, which was visited by a good sized group of enthusiastic genealogists and interested parties.

The histories of some of the oldest Kelseyville families were repeated.

Duane gave a dowsing demonstration.

N. Carraway wrote: " I was always a non believer about divining rods until that visit to the cemetery. Seeing is believing".

If you want to see this phenomenon in person, get on our events mailing list, or check back often to our future events. We try to visit at least one or two cemeteries in Lake County throughout the year.
