The mission of the Adult Community Transition (ACT) Program is to support students with making the shift from dependence to independence, from perceiving themselves as children to recognizing themselves as adults, and from reliance on others to self-reliance to the highest degree possible. Transition is the passage to adult life. The ACT Program provides adult students with disabilities training in the areas of Daily Living Skills, Self-Advocacy, Community Living and Employability. We are focused on real-life training with peers of the same age whether that is learning job skills or participating in community and leisure activities. It is required that all courses be taken simultaneously, as together they make up the integrated ACT Curriculum. The priority of the ACT Program is to prepare students to become as independent as possible. This is supported by providing a wide range of functional instructional opportunities. To help prepare your student for the ACT program, be sure to talk to your IEP team as soon as your student enters High School. Topics of instruction may include:
DAILY LIVING SKILLS
SELF-ADVOCACY SKILLS
COMMUNITY LIVING SKILLS
EMPLOYABILITY SKILLS
