There are 23 California State Universities such as California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).  There are also 10 Universities of California such as UCLA.   

Attending a University is a lot more expensive than attending a community college, so many students decide to start their education at a community college and transfer later to a University.  Still, attending a college within California, including a University, is much cheaper than attending college out of state.
