What is the Battle of the Books?
The Battle of the Books is an exciting reading competition amongst all ten LBPSB High Schools.
At BHS it is open to students in grades 9, 10, & 11.
Teams are created in groups of 3-6. You can form your own teams, but if you don’t have enough people to make a team with friends, we can match you up with one!
The teams are responsible to divide up and read the ten pre-selected titles. It is entirely up to the team how they want to divide up the books, but the more people that read each title, the more people who will know the answer...
Once the teams are formed, the students will have access to the books in the Library.
The paper books will be available to borrow from the Library, and eBooks and Audiobooks will be made available on Sora (the English eBook platform).
Competitors will be given the Fall to get their reading done, with a few meetings here or there to touch base with the Librarian.
After the December break, the teams will start meeting regularly with their Coach to practice answering questions and working as a team.
The first round of competition begins after March break. There are two rounds of competition; the Regional, where the school competes against 4 of the other LBPSB High schools, and the Final. The top two teams from each Regional will proceed to the Final competition.
Working together as a team, they are quizzed on their in-depth, detailed knowledge of the books.
The team with the most points wins and will be declared the Battle of the Books Champions!
