The UC Learning Center is the digital learning management system (LMS) used across the University of California system for training and development. With the UC Learning Center, Berkeley Lab users can register for instructor-led, live events offered at the lab, as well as utilize thousands of online courses.

IDEAs in Action is a collection of toolkits, research, articles, and trainings to help you bring inclusion, diversity, equity and accountability to your teams and to the lab. 'One Minute for IDEA' slides are designed to help all Berkeley Lab employees, particularly supervisors and managers, facilitate discussions on a variety of diversity, equity, inclusion and accountability topics. These slide decks can be downloaded or printed directly from the website and leveraged in whatever ways best suit your needs.

Berkeley Lab Training is a website that provides access to a variety of online employee development opportunities.

Depending on your position at Berkeley Lab, you may be required to complete specific trainings.

The Tuition Assistance Program provides tuition reimbursement (or advancement) for courses at an accredited college or university. You can leverage this program to secure a bachelors, masters, or doctorate degree, or an equivalent level certificate.

Core Strengths Assessment/Program 

This program will resume in Fall of 2024

The Core Strengths assessment is designed for bounded teams to complete together and offers a clearer view into one another’s core motives and how those motives change during conflict. Using this assessment, teams can diagnose and evaluate their internal dynamics and create action plans for strengthening relationships and enhancing communication to drive team objectives.

IDEAL FOR: Bounded teams looking to achieve key outcomes and strengthen their working relationships

360° Assessments

This is a diagnostic assessment and leadership development tool. It is suited for Managers & Supervisors at Berkeley Lab committed to their own professional development and to increasing their effectiveness and ability to influence a wide network of others (direct reports, peers, clients, others stakeholders, etc.) in their current role.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Career employees only and Manager/Supervisors who have been in their role for at least 1 year.

IDEAL FOR: Executives, managers, or high-potential individual contributors/aspiring leaders who manage complex projects with many stakeholders.

The “Equity Reset” program calls for the recurring allocation of time and attention--two of our most precious resources-- to anti-racism work. This program has two components: a self-directed curriculum and First Friday monthly community forums.

In offering racial equity curriculum & guidance, Equity Reset's objective is to enable all Lab employees, especially Lab leadership, to take personal and active ownership over antiracism learning & practice within their teams, areas, divisions, and beyond.

ELIGIBILITY: All Lab employees

IDEAL FOR: Any employee invested in practicing anti-racism at Berkeley Lab

The Director's Stewardship Summit, which was piloted with 150 participants from across the Lab in August 2021 and then again with a cohort of 75 participants in July 2022, is an intensive multi-day online leadership & management program to ignite the potential in who you are, how you lead, and the cultures you create. It is designed specifically for Berkeley Lab's diverse community of emerging and experienced managers and leaders. 

The hybrid, multi-part workshop, coupled with six months of follow-up meetings and culminating in a graduation, uses digital tools like Google and Zoom to engage a cohort of up to 150 participants over the course of an immersive experience. 

The Director's Stewardship Summit is led by a cadre of facilitators & mentors, who engage participants in individual and group work. The program is synchronous, with deadlines, group discussions & practicums, and live workshops and breakouts. The program is based entirely online, with participants joining from their homes or designated locations onsite.

The Summit is run by Berkeley Lab's Learning & Culture Office on behalf of the Directorate.

The UC Systemwide People Management Series and Certificate is a series of e-courses for all current and aspiring managers, covering the following topics: Performance Management, Managing Implicit Bias, Managing People, Administration & Operations, Change Management, and Communications. 

This program is accessible to all employees.

The benefits of completing the Series and Certificate include:

1. Builds baseline management skills for people managers leading to a certificate recognized across the UC system

2. Increases opportunity for promotion and potential for future leadership positions in the UC System

3. Offers easily accessible online courses that are learner-centric and self-paced

4.  Grants supervisors who complete the certificate, eligibility to attend the UC People Management Conference

The University of California (UC) created the UC Women's Initiative for Professional Development (UC WI) program to offer greater professional development opportunities for mid-career women and woman-identified professionals and is open to all employees who support this mission. This program is sponsored by the UC Systemwide Advisory Committee on the Status of Women (SACSW) and UC Office of the President (UCOP). 

This program is nomination-based and has limited spots available annually.  The 2024-2025 UC WI nomination period closed March 22, 2024.  

Coro has assisted with training over 500 faculty, administrators, staff and senior executives at UC. This leadership program focuses on enhancing leadership skills and developing intercampus and cross-functional collaboration.

The UC Managing Implicit Bias Series is a six-course online training series designed to increase awareness of implicit bias and reduce its impact at the University. The series reinforces the UC diversity, equity, and inclusion values that enable the University to attract and retain a top talent workforce, and it further supports the UC commitment to developing effective leaders and managers of people.

The Alternative Dispute Resolution Office (ADRO or the ADR Office), in the Office of Hearings and Appeals, serves as a resource to explore efficient and cost-effective means of managing and resolving conflicts and disputes. We offer mediation, facilitated discussion, consultation, and training.
