For this project we were given seeds to try to grow in two different media with one having high sodium levels. This was to show us what would result of irrigation in certain areas with abundant minerals in the soil. To start this project we needed to first germinate the seeds and because we used EcoFABs to observe the plant I was able to watch my plants develope over the course of the experiment.
Plant A was exposed to the elevated levels of sodium and ended up dying.
Plant B was grown with ordinary water and is still currently growing.
Plant B grew taller and healthier than plant A. This shows plants exposed to excess sodium levels not likely to live.
Plant B had roots that grew further down into the EcoFAB's chamber while plant A had roots that stayed near the surface.
I feel that this project has made me think of how important it is to gather data. Data is used to reveal trends and find solutions to problems we may face. This project really inspired me and I want to continue growing plants and collect data on them.
