Acting I

Welcome to 7th Grade Acting! Google Classroom Code: pwnpt0.

Improv Game- Pantomime with Obstacles!

For this game, you will be given a prompt that you must act out for the class without talking. The lead doesn't tell how your story ends, so you need to make that up as you go. Your improv pantomime will end when you leave the stage. The class will guess as many details as possible and then you will read the prompt to the class after they guess.

Example:

  • "You have a horrible toothache; you've had it for a week now. It's become so bad that you can hardly chew even soft food without suffering excruciating pain. You've made an appointment to see your dentist tomorrow, but in the meantime, you're very hungry. You decided to try and eat something before you faint with hunger"
    • You could pantomime holding your tooth, looking at the calendar to see when your appointment is, opening up all the cupboards, looking for something to eat but cringing at the pain, and then finally taking items out of the refrigerator and blending them to make a smoothie. (this is the part you added on) Ahh, you have relief in the end!

November

For our final unit, we will focus on stage movement, blocking, and directing neutral scenes (a scene without context, characters, location, or stage directions). You will get the opportunity to interpret and block neutral scenes in a small group for the class.

Neutral Scene Performance in Google Classroom

Following our CROW exploration we will be choosing our monologues. Use this form to sign up for your monologue of choice- two people from the same class cannot do the same monologue.

Monologue Tips:

Speak slowly and clearly.

Imagine the character you are talking to.

Use facial expression!

Watch your feet- try not to shuffle and shift around.

Feel and show the lines with emotion- don't just memorize and recite.

Practice, practice practice: until you know it frontwards and backwards and feel comfortable for your performance.

Be proud of yourself and give it your best shot!

Our third unit is focusing on Character through CROW (Character, Relationship, Obstacle/Objective, Where). We will create CROW scenes based on random props and perform them for the class.

Our second unit is focusing on the actor's tool of voice. We are exploring the elements of voice: pitch, rate, tone, volume, and emphasis that we can use to portray an emotion.

Learning Standard: Cr3.1.7. Refine effective physical, vocal, and physiological traits of characters in an improvised or scripted drama/ theatre work.

We will be using the google classroom for assignments and performance feedback. Our google classroom code is pwnpt0.

Our first unit is focusing on the actor's tool of body. After practicing creating tableaus, or frozen pantomime scenes, we will explore both solo and partner pantomimes. The solo pantomimes will be done on the spot, but the partner pantomimes will be planned out and rehearsed before performing.
