As educators we are not alone. We are apart of the larger learning community of the school, but also a partner in learning for every student we interact with. Therefore, we must maintain a high level of professionalism. This applies not only in the school setting, but also on social media and other digital platforms. We are representatives of our school; as such we should maintain responsibility of classroom management, apply conflict resolution especially when it may arise during facilitation of an IEP meeting. Additionally, as educators we should understand the history of education and how it has influenced current policies, As a new educator I will also work toward maintaining a high ethical standard and model integrity by preventing any biases I may have from influencing my teaching. I will also set my own learning goals and communicate and collaborate with colleagues to progress.
These are difficult standards to create artifacts for however, this reflection of philosophy represent my feelings towards entering a new profession. Even more so now with the shortages in staff and the ever changing protocols in relation to the coronavirus disease. I will continue to maintain an effort to be positive in the classroom, deal with negative behaviors in strides and of course always give those students a fresh start and attempt to not allow biases effect my teaching.
U6.1 Reflect on their own teaching practice and level of subject matter and pedagogical knowledge to plan and implement instruction that can improve student learning.
U6.2 Recognize their own values and implicit and explicit biases, the ways in which these values and implicit and explicit biases may positively and negatively affect teaching and learning, and work to mitigate any negative impact on the teaching and learning of students. They exhibit positive dispositions of caring, support, acceptance, and fairness toward all students and families, as well as toward their colleagues.
As I continue to navigate my first year teaching I have set goals for myself to accept all the help I can get to improve my instruction, and management. This image from a workshop represents both working to improve myself professionally, and taking responsibility for student learning and goals.
U6.3 Establish professional learning goals and make progress to improve their practice by routinely engaging in communication and inquiry with colleagues.
U6.5 Demonstrate professional responsibility for all aspects of student learning and classroom management, including responsibility for the learning outcomes of all students, along with appropriate concerns and policies regarding the privacy, health, and safety of students and families. Beginning teachers conduct themselves with integrity and model ethical conduct for themselves and others.
Working with my consulting teacher, has been a great opportunity to learn. We speak weekly not only about my instruction but about IEPs. For example we had an IEP that had many hands in the pot all making their own adjustments. I spoke with her on several occasions and followed her advice. However, when I needed the help I asked her to step in and help facilitate some conversation relating to this IEP. It is still an ongoing issue, but this is a strong example of when I know when and how to involve others for effective communication.
U6.4 Demonstrate how and when to involve other adults and to communicate effectively with peers and colleagues, families, and members of the larger school community to support teacher and student learning.
These screenshots of my Keenan SafeSchool trainings for mandated reports, sexual harassment, title IX, etc., show that I understand and am able to follow through on my professional responsibilities to keep schools safe.
U6.6 Understand and enact professional roles and responsibilities as mandated reporters and comply with all laws concerning professional responsibilities, professional conduct, and moral fitness, including the responsible use of social media and other digital platforms and tools.
This presentation from my coursework relating to historical laws shows my knowledge of laws from history that stem from education including that of individuals with disabilities, and the effects on state and local laws.

This document of local services for individuals and their families who may need support and services to address various issues as a result of their injury.
MM6.6 Possess the knowledge that the diminishment or loss of previous abilities (learning, social, physical) may have significant, long-term effects on the self-concept and emotional well-being of the student who acquires a traumatic brain injury as well as on their family members, requiring the provision of appropriate supports and services to address these issues.
MM6.2 Identify and understand conflict resolution techniques that use communication, collaboration, and mediation approaches to address conflicts and disagreements that may arise during the facilitation of an IEP meeting or collaboration with other professionals.
MM6.5 Demonstrate knowledge of the unique experiences of families of students who are chronically ill, are hospitalized and/or in transition from hospitalization, and/or who have degenerative conditions.
I have not had the opportunity to work with students in the hospital setting. I know there are a few students on the team that are receiving home study services as they are not able to come to school for various conditions. This is a skill I would hope to eventually develop but the timeline for this is unpredictable. At the present time we have a few parents who are highlighting conflicts and disagreements when it comes to their students. I am taking notes on how colleagues are handling it but this is something I have little experience with that I definitely want to grow my skills in.
